We are so excited to share one of our absolute favorite places with our most adored people. Kaua'i is a special place - from its natural lush beauty, to how untouched the land is, we encourage our guests to embrace the "slow yourself down" mentality of the island.
Arrivals and Departures
One of our deciding factors in a destination wedding is the additional time that we'll get to spend with our guests. We suggest traveling on Wednesday, May 5th and departing Sunday, May 9th to spend time with us and on the island. Once you're here, we're quite certain you'll want to stay longer.
Lihue Airport (LIH)
Lihue Airport (LIH) is the primary airport, and is located on the southeast side of the island. All wedding festivities will be taking place on the North Shore, which is approximately a 1 hour drive from the airport.
Lodging
Location is key on the island, and traveling can take longer than expected. We strongly recommend staying on the North Shore of Kaua'i, near wedding festivities. Suggested areas to look for AirBnBs or Vrbos include Princeville and Hanalei. More details below.
Rental Cars
We strongly suggest renting a car in groups. Ride share services are very limited on the island and are not a reliable means of transportation. The island is small, but driving times are longer than they appear on a map, so transportation is helpful for getting around. We have found Costco Travel to be a great site for booking cars locally, along with Turo. Pro tip: grab a vehicle with plenty of space to pop some surf boards in the back ... if that's your thing. (:
We are happy to help coordinate rental cars for groups if you would like to be put in contact with other guests on a similar travel schedule as we get closer.
A key distinction of Kauaʻi as compared to other islands (and one of the things we love about it) is that it is less commercialized and developed. Rather than large resorts or hotels, you'll find more locals style accommodations.
Therefore, many of the best options are villas, condos, or units found on rental platforms such as AirBnb or VRBO. A few recommended include:
- Wyndham Bali Hai Villas
-The Cliffs at Princeville
-Nihilani Condos
If resort style is more your vibe, and you are looking for a splurge, both Hanalei Bay Resort and 1Hotel Hanalei are great options.
Our best suggestion is to search "Princeville" in AirBnB for your desired dates, then read the reviews and look at photos.
